《Okubo Musashi stirrups》

《Okubo Musashi stirrups》

...The story of Choshichiro is included in the Utsunomiya Sodobutsu. Based on the book "Okubo Musashi Abumi," a true story, the kabuki world of Oda was first performed in January 1794 (Kansei 6) at the Kado no Shiba in Osaka as "Haru no Tori" (written by Tatsuoka Mansaku). Later, one scene from this work became independent under the title "Umakiri" and has been passed down to later generations.

From [Okubo Hikozaemon]

…[Inhon Masuo] Later, various books about Okubo Hikozaemon were compiled using Mikawa Monogatari as the source material. One of these was Okubo Musashi Abumi (date of compilation unknown), which portrayed him as a "national advisor" who rescued the weak and offered critical advice to the shogun and feudal lords. Although stories like Abe Bungonokami's crossing of the Sumida River and the handling of the Yashiro Disturbance are absurd as historical fact, they have had a considerable influence on later storytelling and the Tachikawa Bunko collection, as readers sympathized with the refreshing old samurai who maintained his toughness in an era when the three shoguns had lost their simplicity and strength. …

From "Tales of Mikawa"

…It is thought to have been written in 1626 (Kan'ei 3), but copies were widely circulated from early on under other names such as "Mikawa-ki," "Okubo Tadanori's Record," and "Okubo Hikozaemon's Notes." The true story "Okubo Musashi Abumi," in which Isshin Tasuke appears, is completely unrelated to this book in terms of content, but the image of Hikozaemon depicted there is derived from the character of Hikozaemon depicted in this book.
