Japanese: 湖北[町] - こほく

An old town on the northeast shore of Lake Biwa, Higashiasai District, Shiga Prefecture. A rural area centered on rice cultivation, with velvet manufacturing as a family business, and Onoe at the mouth of the Yogo River is a specialty of koayu. There are also lumber and metal industries. The Hokuriku Main Line and National Route 8 pass through the town. The ruins of Odani Castle (historic site), where Asai Nagamasa lived, are located, and the lakeshore is part of Lake Biwa Quasi-National Park. In 1993, Lake Biwa was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland. In January 2010, it was incorporated into Nagahama City along with Torahime Town in Higashiasai District, Takatsuki Town in Ika District, Kinomoto Town, Yogo Town, and Nishiasai Town. 42.76 ^km2 . 8,926 people (2005).

滋賀県東浅井(ひがしあざい)郡，琵琶湖北東岸の旧町。米作中心の農村地域で，家内工業のビロード製造も営み，余呉川河口の尾上(おのえ)はコアユを特産。製材，金属などの工業も営む。北陸本線，国道８号線が通じる。浅井長政が居城した小谷(おだに)城跡（史跡）があり，湖岸は琵琶湖国定公園に属する。1993年に琵琶湖がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。2010年１月東浅井郡虎姫町，伊香郡高月町，木之本町，余呉町，西浅井町と長浜市へ編入。42.76km²。8926人（2005）。
