Anatomist. Born in Kanazawa as the eldest son of Suzuki Giroku, a physician of Western medicine. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine of the Imperial University in 1888 (Meiji 21), he immediately joined the anatomy department and became an assistant to Professor Taguchi Kazuyoshi. In 1893, he was appointed professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Fourth Higher School (now the Faculty of Medicine of Kanazawa University), and studied in Germany from 1896 to 1899. After returning to Japan, he became the first professor of anatomy at the newly established Faculty of Medicine of Kyoto Imperial University. During the dawn of anatomy in Japan, he wrote many books, including "Topographical Anatomy," "Academic Techniques for Anatomy," and "General Theory of Histology." His "Vocabulary of Anatomy" (1905) was Japan's first anatomical glossary based on international anatomical terminology. Furthermore, aiming to break away from the traditional translation of Western books, he began writing "Systematic Anatomy of the Human Body" based on the dissection of a Japanese corpse, but he died before being able to complete it.
