The Akaishi Mountains are a triangular region between the Median Tectonic Line and the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line. This is a geotectonic term coined by E. Naumann, and the Sanbagawa Belt, Chichibu Belt, and Shimanto Belt are arranged in a belt-like fashion to the south of the Median Tectonic Line.
