Yoshinari Ashikaga

...The 8th Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate. In office from 1449 to 1473 (Hōtoku 1 to Bunmei 5). Son of the 6th Shogun Yoshinori and full brother of the 7th Shogun Yoshikatsu. His mother was Shigeko, daughter of Hino Shigemitsu. In 1441 (Kakitsu 1), Yoshinori died violently in the so-called Kakitsu Rebellion, and in 1443 Yoshikatsu also died young, so Yoshishige inherited the family headship. In 1446 (Bun'an 3), Emperor Gohanazono gave him the name Yoshishige. In 1449, at the age of 15, he came of age and became Seii Taishogun. In 1453 (Kyōtoku 2), he changed his name to Yoshimasa. In 1460 (Kansho 1), he became Minister of the Left, and in 1464, Junsangu. When he became Seii Taishogun, a hanhajime ceremony was held, but it was not until around 1455 that he actually began issuing official seals. ...

…室町幕府8代将軍。1449‐73年(宝徳1‐文明5)在職。6代将軍義教の子，7代将軍義勝の同母弟。母は日野重光の女重子。1441年(嘉吉1)いわゆる嘉吉の乱で義教が横死し，ついで43年義勝も夭死したため家督を継ぐ。46年(文安3)後花園天皇から義成（よししげ）と命名される。49年15歳で元服，征夷大将軍となる。53年(享徳2)義政と改名。60年(寛正1)左大臣，64年准三宮となる。征夷大将軍就任のとき判始の儀式を行ったが，実際に御判御教書を発給するのは1455年ころからである。…
