Kenji Igarashi

Japanese: 五十嵐健治 - いがらしけんじ

1877-1972 A businessman from the Meiji to Showa era.
Born on March 14, 1877. Worked at Mitsui Gofukuten (now Mitsukoshi) and founded the laundry business Hakuyosha in 1906. The following year he developed Japan's first dry cleaning technology. He expanded his business by establishing factories in Tokyo and Osaka. As a Christian, he also worked in evangelism and publishing. He passed away on April 10, 1972. He was 95 years old. He was from Niigata Prefecture. His maiden name was Funazaki. He wrote his autobiography, "My Christian Faith and My Experiences."

明治10年3月14日生まれ。三井呉服店(現三越)につとめ,明治39年洗濯業の白洋舎を創業。翌年わが国ではじめてドライクリーニングの技術を開発。東京,大阪に工場をつくるなど事業を拡大する。クリスチャンとして伝道と出版にもつとめた。昭和47年4月10日死去。95歳。新潟県出身。旧姓は船崎。自伝に「キリスト信仰とわが体験」。
