One of the Apocrypha that was added to the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament. It is said to have no relation to the Book of Daniel. Set in Babylonian Jewish society, this story tells of Susanna, a Jewish wife who was faithful to the law, who was accused of adultery by two elders who were attracted to her beauty, and was sentenced to death for false testimony, but Daniel, moved by God's spirit, proved her innocent. The central point is that those who follow the law will ultimately win, and that a fair trial was maintained by Daniel. The name Daniel (meaning "God is my judge" or "God has judged") is also symbolic. It is said to have been written in Hebrew around 95-80 B.C.

旧約聖書の『ダニエル書』に付加されていた旧約外典の一つ。『ダニエル書』との関係はないとされる。バビロニアのユダヤ人社会を舞台としたこの物語は，律法に忠実なユダヤ人の妻スザンナが，その美しさに魅せられた2人の長老によって，姦通罪で訴えられ，偽証によって死罪にされるが，神の霊に動かされたダニエルによって潔白が証明されるという内容。律法に従う者は最終的には勝利するということと，公正な裁判がダニエルによって保たれたことがその中心である。ダニエル (「神はわが審判者」「神が裁いた」の意味) という名も象徴的。前 95～80年頃，ヘブライ語でつくられたといわれる。
