Lokāyata (English spelling)

...Ajita's theory of the four elements completely denies the existence of the soul, and denies the Atman of orthodox Brahmin thought. At the same time, he also denied any retribution for good or bad deeds, which was the most important issue for people at that time, and said that morality and religion are unnecessary. This ideology that does not recognize the afterlife, denies the retribution of karma, and places the supremacy of worldly pleasures is called Lokāyata in Sanskrit, and is translated in Buddhist scriptures as "the heretical sect of the world." In later times, it is also called Cārvāka.
