Born: September 6, 1912, Karoksa, Austria-Hungary
[Died] January 8, 1992. Paris, France. A Hungarian-born French sculptor. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Budapest, and in 1936 went to Paris to study at the School of Fine Arts in the same city. In 1950, he produced a sculpture he called "Spatial Dynamics" that combined light and movement. He worked on "cybernetic sculptures," three-dimensional sculptures that integrated light, sound, and movement with automatic control mechanisms, and in 1961 built the "Cybernetic Tower" in Liège. His goal was to revolutionize art and create a new relationship between art and society, and he expanded this to urban planning. Aiming to socialize art through mass production, he produced an object called "Lumino" at Philips. In 1970, he came to Japan and produced "Lux." His books include "The Cybernetic City" (La Ville Cybernétique) (1969) and others.

ハンガリー生れのフランスの彫刻家。ブダペストの美術学校で学び，1936年パリに行き同市美術学校で学ぶ。 50年光と動きを伴った「空間動力学」と名づける彫刻を発表。自動制御機構をもった光，音，動きを総合化した立体「サイバネティックス彫刻」を手がけ，61年リエージュ市に『サイバネティックス塔』を建設。芸術の変革，社会と芸術の新しい関係をつくりだすことを目的とし，それを都市計画にまで拡大した。作品の量産による芸術の社会化を目指し，『リュミノ』というオブジェをフィリップス社で生産。 70年来日し『ルックス』を発表。著書『サイバネティックス都市』 La Ville Cybernétique (1969) ほか。
