Horsetail (English name) Hippuris vulgaris L.
A perennial aquatic plant of the Equisetaceae family. Its English names are mare's-tail, mousetail, and cattail. The stem is erect, 10-60 cm tall, and the upper part usually grows above the water surface and is unbranched. The leaves appear to be clustered at the top of the stem, but 4-12 leaves grow in whorls, are linear, 1-2 cm long, and often slightly curved. The flowers that bloom in summer are small, and are mostly bisexual, but sometimes unisexual flowers are produced. They are found in the axils of the above-water leaves, lack perianths, have a lower ovary, and have one stamen.
