...the passageway connecting the river temple and the funerary temple of the Egyptian pyramid complex, and the labyrinthine corridor of the palace at Knossos are good examples. The tomb temples of Egypt, the colonnades of Greek temples, and the stoa of the agora, Greek city squares, were architecturally magnificent corridors designed to protect against the sun, rain, and snow. The ancient Romans faithfully inherited Greek architectural techniques, but they also actively incorporated corridors into residential architecture.
