A plateau in the west of Beppu City, Oita Prefecture. A lava plateau 600-700 meters above sea level consisting of pyroxene andesite that unfolds on the southern foot of Mt. Tsurumi. The Oita River valley opens up to the south. Before World War II, Kanebo (later Kanebo) ranched sheep here, but after the war, Kansai Tourist Company developed the area for tourism, and in 1965 it was taken over by Nishinippon Leisure Development, which built a variety of sports and entertainment facilities, including hotels, golf courses, and amusement parks. It is a 45-minute bus ride from Beppu Station. [Shunichi Kaneko] [Reference item] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
