A former town in Iinan District, central Mie Prefecture. Located in the middle reaches of the Kushida River, the town is connected to Wakayama Kaido (National Route 166) from Matsusaka. It is the center of Ise tea cultivation, and also produces timber and shiitake mushrooms. It is a producer of Matsusaka beef. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Matsusaka City along with Ureshino Town, Mikumo Town, and Iitaka Town in Iinan District. Area: 76.33 km2 .
