Hagia Triada

The ruins of the villa of King Phaistos from the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete. Located about 4km south of Phaistos, the palace site occupies a scenic spot overlooking the mountains, sea and plains, and is a complex of many rooms arranged in an L shape. The main part is in the northwestern part, and includes a pillared main room, a ceremonial room, other rooms, storehouses, a terrace, etc. Among the excavated items, the well-preserved murals and a sarcophagus made of stalagmite are particularly famous, along with a painted sarcophagus depicting a cult scene that was discovered in a nearby tomb. クレタ島にあるミノス文明時代のファイストス王の離宮遺跡。ファイストスの南方約4km。山と海と平野を眺める景勝の地を占める宮址は，L字形に連続する多くの室の集合体である。主要部分は北西部にあって，角柱のある主室，祭室，その他の諸室に倉庫，テラス等が集まる。出土品のなかで，保存のよい壁画と凍石製の浮彫杯は，近くの墓から発見された礼拝図を描いた彩色石棺とともに，とくに有名である。【村田数之亮】
