The ruins of the villa of King Phaistos from the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete. Located about 4km south of Phaistos, the palace site occupies a scenic spot overlooking the mountains, sea and plains, and is a complex of many rooms arranged in an L shape. The main part is in the northwestern part, and includes a pillared main room, a ceremonial room, other rooms, storehouses, a terrace, etc. Among the excavated items, the well-preserved murals and a sarcophagus made of stalagmite are particularly famous, along with a painted sarcophagus depicting a cult scene that was discovered in a nearby tomb.
