Sedo politics - Sedo politics

Japanese:
Sedo politics - Sedo politics
In the Joseon Dynasty, this refers to a situation in which a certain person or group who had the king's trust monopolized political power, and is also called Sedo politics. Such people or groups were often in-laws of the royal family through blood or marriage, and since Hong Guk-yeong (1748-81) during the reign of King Jeongjo (1776-1800), the in-laws' power politics continued until the end of the Joseon Dynasty. In particular, after Sunjo (reigned 1800-34), a succession of young kings spurred power politics, and the government was privatized by the Andong Kim clan (during both Sunjo and Cheoljong's reigns), the Pungyang Jo clan (during Heonjong's reign), the Yeohung Min clan (during Gojong's reign), and others.
