Suwon

Japanese: 水原 - すいげん

A city located about 41 km south of Seoul in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It is the capital of Gyeonggi-do. During the Joseon Dynasty, it was one of the four guardian towns of Seoul. It is the center of agricultural research in Korea, and is home to the Rural Development Administration, the Sericulture Research Institute, and the College of Agriculture at Seoul National University. Factories such as cotton spinning, rayon weaving, and brewing have developed in the city. There are many historical sites in the city, including the walls, tower gates, and observation deck of Hwaseong Fortress (Suwon Fortress), which was built by King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty and is 3.6 meters high and has a circumference of about 5 km. In addition, the Korean Folk Village, a 30-minute bus ride away, is a tourist destination where markets and farmhouses from the Joseon Dynasty are reproduced. Hwaseong was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1997. Population: 1,071,913 (2010).

韓国，京畿道のソウル南方約41kmにある都市。京畿道の道庁所在地。朝鮮王朝時代ソウル守護の四鎮の一つとされた。韓国農業研究の中心地で農村振興庁，蚕業試験所，ソウル大学農学部などがある。綿紡績，人絹織物，醸造などの工場が発展している。市内には朝鮮王朝の正祖が建設した高さ3.6m，周囲約5kmの華城（水原城）の城壁，楼門，展望台はじめ史跡が多い。また，バスで30分の韓国民俗村は，朝鮮王朝時代の市場や農家などが再現された観光地。華城は1997年世界文化遺産に登録された。人口107万1913人（2010）。
