A novel by Grimmelshausen, published in 1669. Also known as The Fool's Tale. A folk novel in the style of a rogue novel. It takes the form of an autobiography of Simplicissimus, a poor peasant's son growing up in the midst of the Thirty Years' War, and portrays the social conditions of the time in an interesting and critical way. The sequel also anticipates the later Robinson stories. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
