…The Azumi clan had been controlling the fishermen since early times, and in the Nihon Shoki, it is written that during the reign of Emperor Ojin, Ohama no Sukune, the ancestor of the Azumi clan, was sent to quell the disturbances of the fishermen in various places, and Sukune was made the "commander of the fishermen." This indicates that the position of the Azumi clan was officially recognized. During the reign of Emperor Richu, Azumi no Hamako was executed for participating in the rebellion of Prince Sumiyoshi Naka, and so he called his tattoo Azumime. After this, he did not show any notable activity for a while, but he started to be active again after the reign of Empress Suiko. In particular, Azumi no Hirafu was involved in the peninsula issue, and later, as the generalissimo, he participated in the rescue of Baekje in the early years of the reign of Emperor Tenchi, leading a naval force. …
