Japanese: 人造肉 - じんぞうにく

A processed food made from ingredients other than animal matter, with a taste, texture, and nutrition similar to meat. Proteins from soybeans, wheat, etc. are treated with alkali to turn them into a liquid and then squirted out into a fibrous form, which has a texture similar to meat. Colorings, seasonings, fragrances, binders, etc. are added to this and processed to give it a shape similar to meat. It is often mixed into ham, sausages, kamaboko, etc., and is good for feeding sick people because it is nutritious and does not contain cholesterol.
