Fujiwara no Tsunemune - Fujiwara no Tsunemune

Japanese:
Fujiwara no Tsunemune - Fujiwara no Tsunemune

An aristocrat in the late Heian period. Son of Dainagon Fujiwara no Tsunezane. After Tsunezane and Tsunemune, this lineage became the Oimikadoke family, one of the Seigake families. Prince Morihito, who was born to his full sister and Emperor Goshirakawa, ascended to the throne in 1158 (Hogen 3) (Emperor Nijō), and he became his close aide. During the Heiji Rebellion in 1159 (Heiji 1), he allied himself with Taira no Kiyomori and defeated Fujiwara no Shinzei and Fujiwara no Nobuyori, who supported the cloistered government of Goshirakawa, in succession, in an attempt to strengthen the position of the emperor, but was opposed by the cloistered emperor and exiled to Awa in 1160 (Eiraku 1). He was restored to his original position in 1164 (Chokan 2), and was promoted to the position of Minister of the Left in 1166 (Jin'an 1). After the death of Emperor Nijō, he became close to Emperor Goshirakawa and maintained his position in aristocratic society. Immediately after the Taira clan fled the capital in 1183 (Juei 2), he played an active role in helping Emperor Goshirakawa take the lead in aristocratic society, such as by insisting that the ceremony of assigning titles be held in the Imperial Palace, which he achieved, and by becoming an innocence official despite his position as a minister. He remained as Minister of the Left until just before his death, and supported Goshirakawa's cloistered government as an elder member of aristocratic society.
