A hero in Greek mythology. King Abas of Argos had twin sons, Proetus and Acrisius. The two, who had been fighting since they were in their mother's womb, fought over the succession of the throne of Argos, which their late father had left behind. After a long battle, Acrisius won, and Proetus, who was defeated, fled to King Iobates of Lycia and married the king's daughter, Antheia. Later, Proetus returned to Argos with the help of King Iobates and occupied the castle of Tiryns in Argos, which was fortified by the one-eyed giants, the Cyclopes. Eventually, the brothers Proetus and Acrisius reconciled, and the kingdom of Argos was divided in two, but Acrisius was later killed by a discus thrown by his son Perseus, as the oracle had predicted.
