An evergreen shrub of the Rosaceae family that grows on the coasts of warm regions. The trunks are gray-black and grow somewhat creeping. The leaves are alternate and pinnately compound. There are 9-15 pairs of leaflets, which are ovate-oblong, 0.5-1 cm long, firm, and glossy on the surface. The flowers bloom in spring, but can also appear in winter, with 2-4 flowers at the ends of the branches. The corolla is about 1 cm in diameter, with 5 white, obovate petals and 20-25 stamens. The fruits are spherical and ripen to a purple-black color. They occur in the Ryukyu Islands and are distributed quite widely in the subtropics and tropics of the Pacific islands.
