Pyramid texts (English)

Japanese: ピラミッド･テキスト（英語表記）Pyramid texts

One of the ancient Egyptian funerary texts. It is a collection of spells recited during funeral and memorial ceremonies to aid in the resurrection and eternal life of the deceased king, and is so named because they were inscribed on the walls of the tombs of pyramids at the end of the Old Kingdom (those of Unas of the 5th Dynasty, Pepi I, Merenre I, and Pepi II of the 6th Dynasty, and Ibi and the three queens of Pepi II of the 8th Dynasty). There is no unified text, and the spells used vary from pyramid to pyramid. Currently, 759 chapters are known from a collection by German Egyptologist Kurt Sethe (1869-1934).

古代エジプトの葬礼文書の一つ。故王の復活と永生を助けるため，葬儀や供養の儀式の際に誦された呪文の集成で，古王国末期のピラミッド(第5王朝のウナス，第6王朝のペピ1世，メルエンラー1世，ペピ2世，第8王朝のイビ，およびペピ2世の3人の王妃のもの)の墓室壁面に刻まれたのでこの名がある。統一されたテキストがあるわけでなく，ピラミッドごとに用いられる呪文に異同がある。現在，ドイツのエジプト学者ゼーテKurt Sethe(1869‐1934)の集成により759章が知られている。
