Shinjuan - Shinjuan
A subtemple of Daitoku-ji Temple, a Rinzai sect temple in Kita-ku, Kyoto City. It was built in 1491 by Owa Sorin, a wealthy merchant from Sakai, as a pagoda for Ikkyu Sojun. Of the existing buildings, the abbot's chamber, the kuri (kitchen quarters), and Tsusen-in are designated as Important Cultural Properties, and together with the garden, are designated as historic sites and scenic spots. The eastern garden of the abbot's chamber was created during the Muromachi period, and is long and narrow from north to south, with stones arranged in the numbers seven, five, and three from south to north, hence it is called the "Seven-Five-Three Garden." The temple treasures include the calligraphy of Daito Kokushi (→ Myocho), a national treasure, as well as paintings on the sliding doors of the abbot's chamber, a colored ascetic Shaka statue on paper that is said to be a serpentine brush, a sumi-e Bodhidharma statue on paper that is said to be a serpentine brush, a seated statue of Ikkyu Sojun, a statue of Ikkyu Sojun, a wooden seated statue of Ikkyu, and calligraphy by Ikkyu Sojun. The grounds also contain the graves of Murata Juko, Kan'ami Seiji, Zeami Motokiyo, and others.

京都市北区にある臨済宗大徳寺の塔頭。堺の豪商尾和宗臨が一休宗純の塔所として延徳3 (1491) 年に創建したもの。現存する建物のうち,方丈,庫裏,通僊院 (つうせんいん) は重要文化財に指定され,庭園とともに史跡・名勝。方丈の東庭は室町時代の作であり,南北に細長く,南から七,五,三,の石を配置していることから「七五三の庭」と呼ばれる。寺宝として国宝の大燈国師 (→妙超 ) 墨跡をはじめ,方丈襖絵,伝蛇足筆紙本著色苦行釈迦像,墨渓筆紙本墨画達磨像,伝蛇足筆紙本臨済和尚像,一休宗純和尚坐像,一休宗純像,木造一休和尚坐像,一休宗純墨跡などの重要文化財を擁する。境内には村田珠光,観阿弥清次,世阿弥元清などの墓もある。
