Born in September 1621 (Genna 7). The eldest son of Kato Akinari. His father returned the Mutsu Aizu Domain's 400,000 koku to the shogunate and retired, so in 1627 (Kan'ei 20), he became the lord of Yoshinaga Domain in Iwami (Shimane Prefecture) (10,000 koku). In 1629 (Tenna 2), he was granted an additional 10,000 koku, and became the first lord of Minakuchi Domain in Omi (Shiga Prefecture). He died on December 7, 1623 (Tenna 3). He was 63 years old.
