A major general trading company of the Sumitomo Zaibatsu. It was founded in 1919 as Osaka Hokko Co., Ltd., and merged with Sumitomo Building Co., Ltd. in 1944 to become Sumitomo Land Construction. When the zaibatsu was dissolved in 1945, the company established a trading division and changed its name to Nippon Kensetsu Sangyo Co., Ltd., and changed its name to its current name in 1952. It mainly deals in metals, machinery, and chemical products. It was known for its sound management and good financial condition, but in 1996, fraud was discovered in copper bullion trading, and it suffered a loss of 2.6 billion dollars. Recently, it has been making unique developments in the CATV business and urban redevelopment business. Headquarters in Tokyo. Capital in 2011 was 219.2 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 8.35 trillion yen.
