Kabuki script. Sewamono (domestic drama). Three acts. Written by Kawatake Mokuami. First performed in 1883 ( Meiji 16 ) at the Tokyo Shimuraza Theatre. Upon hearing that Isobe Kazuenosuke's concubine Otsuta has been executed by her lord in a plot by a group of villains, his brother, Uoya Sogoro, breaks his vow to abstain from alcohol and goes on a rampage at Isobe's mansion. Feeling remorseful, Kazuenosuke apologizes to Sogoro, and the group of villains is destroyed. This is the author's masterpiece from his later years.
