…It is well known as the second most poisonous plant after water hemlock, and in England it is called hemlock, and it is said that Socrates drank it to death. In America, the same plant is called poison hemlock, and simply hemlock refers to a coniferous tree of the Tsuga genus. Recently, it has become a naturalized plant in Japan, and is slowly appearing in various places.
