It is a deciduous shrub of the Rosaceae family that resembles plum blossoms but has yellow petals. It is a member of the Potentilla genus and can grow to a height of 50-100cm, occasionally reaching 1.5m. The leaves are alternate and odd-pinnately compound, with leaflets that usually have five in number, hence the English name shrubby cinquefoil. It has large stipules. In summer, it produces yellow flowers with five petals and a diameter of 2-3cm. When cultivated on flat land, it blooms in May and June.
