㋐不平・不満・恨みの意を込めながら、相手の自分に対する非難に対し、根拠や理由を示し、反駁はんばく、訴え、甘えなどの気持ちを表す。「だって時間がないんですもの」「でもお父さんがそうおっしゃったんですもの
㋑(「ものね」「ものな」などの形で)詠嘆の意をこめて理由を表す。「でもあなたと私とでは考え方も違いますものね」「なるほど、それは彼のお得意だものな」
文末で、活用語の連体形に付く。
㋐逆接的な気持ちを込めて詠嘆する意を表す。…のになあ。…のだがなあ。

㋑順接の確定条件を含み、詠嘆・感動の意を表す。…だからなあ。

[補説]上代の「もの」は形式名詞から、近世以後の「もの」は終助詞「ものを」の音変化したものという。
