A medieval samurai family whose main territory was Shibuya Manor in Sagami Province. The Kawasaki Kanja Motoie clan, a branch of the Kanmu Heishi clan, advanced into southern Musashi and expanded further into Sagami Province, where Motoie's grandson Shigekuni became Shibuya Manor's governor and took the name Shibuya. Shigekuni sided with the Taira clan when Minamoto no Yoritomo raised an army in 1180 (Jisho 4). However, when the Sasaki clan, whom he had supported for some time, joined Yoritomo and fled in defeat from Ishibashiyama, Shigekuni hid them again and protected them from the Taira's search. He also served under Yoritomo and maintained his status as a feudal lord in Sagami Province due to his military achievements in the subsequent battle to pursue the Taira clan, and his family received preferential treatment from Yoritomo, such as exemption from taxes on their territories.
