Askia Ishaq [II] - Asuki Ishaq

...Thus, the Songhai peace was established in the vast interior of West Africa, but from the 1580s onwards, disasters such as plague, drought and floods occurred one after another, and civil war broke out during the reign of Mohammed IV (reigned 1586-88), seven generations after Mohammed the Great. Then, during the reign of the next emperor, Askiya Isḥāq II (reigned 1588-91), the empire collapsed in 1591 after being attacked by an expeditionary force sent by King Mansur of the Saadian dynasty, who had long had ambitions for the Sahara and the black countries to the south. The Moroccan army, equipped with flintlock guns, routed the large Songhai cavalry army, which had not previously known firearms, and this was the first time that firearms were introduced to sub-Saharan African society.
