Artificial feed - jinkoushiryo (English spelling) synthetic feed

Artificial feed - jinkoushiryo (English spelling) synthetic feed
A feed given in place of natural feed for a specific purpose. In sericulture, silkworms were previously fed only mulberry, but in recent years it has become possible to raise them on artificial feed that does not contain mulberry at all, freeing sericulture from the seasonal fluctuations in mulberry production. This is because research into the mechanism of silkworm feed intake has revealed various different intake inducers contained in mulberry, and these can now be used to attract silkworms to the artificial feed, have them bite it, and then have them swallow and digest it.
