In China, the tenant farming system is called the land-renting system, or the system of renting land and farming it as a share.
[Historical development of the land tax system]
During the Han Dynasty, poor farmers were already renting land from large landowners known as the Gomin and Kenpei To, and providing them with 50% or more of their harvest. This type of land was called kaden (temporary rice field) and the system was called kasaku (temporary cultivation). The temporary cultivation system was also implemented on public land owned by the state.
