Japanese: 夜光塗料 - やこうとりょう

Also known as luminous paint. Paint that emits fluorescence or phosphorescence. Fluorescent or phosphorescent materials are used as pigments, and dammar or vinyl acetate resin is used as a binder. Fluorescent materials include alkaline earth metal sulfides such as zinc sulfide with trace amounts of activators (copper, silver, bismuth, manganese, etc.), as well as fluorescent dyes such as rhodamine and eosin, and fluorescent pigments such as rhodamine tungstate. There are also self-luminous paints that contain trace amounts of radioactive materials such as radium, which emit alpha rays and emit light at night or in dark places. Fluorescent colors include red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. Used for advertisements, road signs, and instrument dials.

発光塗料とも。蛍光(けいこう)またはリン光を発する塗料。蛍光体やリン光体を顔料とし，展色剤にはダンマル，酢酸ビニル樹脂などを用いる。蛍光体としては硫化亜鉛などアルカリ土類金属の硫化物に賦活剤（銅，銀，ビスマス，マンガンなど）を微量加えたもののほか，ローダミン，エオシンなどの蛍光染料，ローダミンのタングステン酸塩などの蛍光顔料も用いられる。またラジウムなどの放射性物質を微量添加して，放出されるα線の刺激により夜間や暗所でも自ら発光するようにした自発光塗料もある。蛍光の色は赤，だいだい，黄，緑，青など。広告，道路標識，計器類の文字盤などに利用。
