Neuromuscular junction

Japanese: 神経筋接合部 - しんけいきんせつごうぶ（英語表記）neuromuscular junction

Abbreviated as NMJ. This is the part where the motor nerve fiber connects to the muscle fiber. In vertebrate skeletal muscles, this part is also called the endplate. The end of the motor nerve fiber loses its myelin sheath, branches, and faces the cell membrane on the surface of the muscle fiber at a distance of about 500 Å. The muscle cell membrane in this area has many folds. The neuromuscular junction can be considered a type of synapse, where impulses from the motor nerve fiber are transmitted to the muscle fiber through it, but impulses from the muscle fiber are not transmitted to the nerve fiber.

NMJと略称。運動神経繊維が筋繊維と接合する部分をいう。脊椎動物の骨格筋では，この部分を終板end‐plateともいう。運動神経繊維の末端は髄鞘がなくなり，枝分れして筋繊維表面の細胞膜と約500Åの距離で相対している。この部分の筋細胞膜には多数のひだがある。神経筋接合部はシナプスの一種とみなすことができ，運動神経繊維のインパルスはここを通過して筋繊維に伝えられるが，筋繊維のインパルスが神経繊維に伝わることはない。
