Daughter of the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos (1083-1153/54). When her father was on his deathbed, she failed in a palace conspiracy to put her husband Nikephoros Bryennios on the throne. When her brother John (II) ascended to the throne, she entered a monastery and wrote the 15-volume Alexias, a history of her father's emperor, continuing the unfinished history covering the years 1070-79 that her husband had left behind. Using the pseudo-classical Greek of the time, ancient Attic Greek, and modeled on the works of Thucydides and Polybius, it is the greatest literary work of the Komnenoid revival, and is filled with the author's humanist education, which she had cultivated since childhood.

ビザンティン皇帝アレクシオス1世コムネノスの娘。父の臨終にさいし，夫のニケフォロス･ブリュエンニオスを帝位につける宮廷陰謀に失敗し，弟のヨハネス(2世)が即位するにおよんで修道院に入り，夫が残した1070‐79年にわたる未完の歴史をひきついで，15巻の《アレクシアスAlexias》を著し，父皇帝の歴史を記した。当時の擬古文，古代アッティカ風ギリシア語を用い，トゥキュディデス，ポリュビオスを手本とした，コムネノス朝時代の文芸復興の最大の文学作品で，幼少の頃から培われた著者の人文主義者としての教養が随所にあふれている。
