Jacques Rivette

Jacques Rivette
Born: March 1, 1928, Rouen
[Died] January 29, 2016. Paris. French film director. Full name Jacques Pierre Louis Rivette. Known as a pioneer of the French New Wave, he was known for his experimental and expressive techniques. Before becoming a film director, he wrote film reviews and other works. In 1950, he founded the film magazine La Gazette du Cinema with Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, and Eric Rohmer. After it ceased publication after the fifth issue, all four of them wrote film reviews for the influential film magazine Cahiers du Cinema. Rivette later served as the magazine's editor-in-chief. The four of them, along with Claude Chabrol, who was also one of the magazine's contributors, became central film directors of the French New Wave. In the 1950s, they began making short films such as Le Coup du berger (1956), which was a masterpiece by French filmmakers. Her debut feature, Paris nous appartient (1961), was a unique and atmospheric portrayal of a young woman who becomes embroiled in the dark world of a small theater company and a political movement. Her film La Religieuse (1966), based on a novel by Denis Diderot, was a commercial success, partly due to its satire of the Catholic Church, but was also banned. Her other films include Céline et Julie vont en bateau (1974), La Bande des quatre (1988), and 36 vues du Pic Saint Loup (2009).

rivet
rivet

A cylindrical metal fastening part with a head at one end. It is inserted into a hole in overlapping plates, and the other end is crushed (by machine for rivets with a diameter of the body larger than 25 mm, by hand for smaller diameters) to form a head and fasten them together. This fastening is called a riveted joint, and is a permanent bond. The head is driven at room temperature or when red hot, but the latter method has a great airtight effect because the thermal contraction of the rivet tightly fastens the plates together. There are nine types of rivets, depending on the shape of the head, including round, plate, round plate, flat, and pan. The materials used are the same as those used for the plates, including low-carbon steel, copper, copper alloys, and aluminum alloys. Rivet joints are more reliable than welded joints, but with advances in welding technology and the emergence of high-tensile steel, rivets are gradually being replaced for all but special cases.

rivet
