217‐282 A nobleman and great official of the Western Jin Dynasty in China. His courtesy name was Gonglu. He was from Xiangling, Pingyang County (Xiangling County, Shanxi Province). His father, Jia Kui, was a famous minister of the Wei Dynasty. Jia Chong demonstrated his skills as a staff officer of the powerful minister Sima Zhao (Emperor Wen of Jin), and played an active role in the Wei-Jin Revolution as a confidant of the Sima clan. He was also knowledgeable in practical matters and made achievements such as establishing new laws. Emperor Wu also relied heavily on Jia Chong, entrusting him with important responsibilities such as the position of Minister of State and Minister of the Secretariat, and appointed him as commander-in-chief in the operation to pacify Wu, which shows the aristocratic politics of the Western Jin Dynasty. His daughter became the Crown Princess (Empress Jia) and monopolized the court government during the reign of the next Emperor Hui. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
