Deep Sea Drilling Project

Japanese: 深海掘削計画 - しんかいくっさくけいかく（英語表記）Deep Sea Drilling Project

This was an academic ocean floor drilling project following the Mohole project, which began in 1968 with drilling in the Gulf of Mexico by the US drilling ship Glomar Challenger, and by 1984 had been completed at 624 sites around the world. Initially it was the work of the National Science Foundation (NSF), but after 1975 it became an international collaboration and was carried out as the International Phase of Ocean Drilling (IPOD). In 1985 the US drilling ship Joides Resolution joined, expanding the scale of the project and the name was changed to the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP).

モホール計画に続く学術的な海洋底掘削計画で，米国の掘削船グローマー・チャレンジャーによって1968年にメキシコ湾の掘削から始まり1984年までに世界中の624点で行われた．当初は米国科学財団（NSF）の仕事であったが，1975年以後は国際協力となり国際深海掘削計画（International Phase of　Ocean Drilling, IPOD）として実施された．1985年からは米国の掘削船ジョイデス・レゾリューションが加わり規模も大きくなり，名称も国際深海掘削計画（Ocean Drilling Program, ODP）へと発展した．
