Poetry - Wrinkles

A general term for essayistic books on poetry in China. It began with Ouyang Xiu's Liuyi Shihua of the Song Dynasty, and many more were published with the author's name in the title. Most of the content is miscellaneous, such as discussing the origins of the poetry school, adding brief critiques to lines, explaining the manner of poetry, and recording the words and deeds of poets, but some are systematically written, such as Yan Yu's Canglang Shihua of the Song Dynasty and Zhao Yi's Oubei Shihua of the Qing Dynasty. Other famous works include the Ming dynasty's "Siyuo Poetry" by Xie Zhen, who is a scholar of the elegant school, the Qing dynasty's "Taikeidou Poetry" by Wang Shizhen, who is a scholar of divine rhythm, and the Qing dynasty's "Suiyuan Poetry" by Yuan Mei, who is a scholar of nature and spirit. Most of the poems are collected in "Poetry of the Past," "Poetry of the Past Continued," and "Poetry of the Qing," providing excellent sources for understanding the poetic consciousness of each era.

中国において詩に関する随筆的書物の総称。宋(そう)の欧陽修(おうようしゅう)の『六一(りくいつ)詩話』に始まり、以後続々と何々詩話と著者の号を冠したものが現れた。その内容は、詩派の源流を論じ、詩句に寸評を加え、詩の作法を説き、詩人の言行を記録するなど雑多なものがほとんどであるが、なかには宋の厳羽(げんう)の『滄浪(そうろう)詩話』や清(しん)の趙翼(ちょうよく)の『甌北(おうほく)詩話』のように体系だった記述をなしているものもある。ほかに格調派の明(みん)の謝榛(しゃしん)の『四暝(しめい)詩話』、神韻説の清の王士禎(おうしてい)の『帯経堂(たいけいどう)詩話』、性霊(せいれい)説の清の袁枚(えんばい)の『随園詩話』などが有名。詩話のほとんどは『歴代詩話』『歴代詩話続編』『清詩話』に収められており、それぞれの時代の詩意識をうかがうための好資料を提供している。
