Art from the Andhra region of southern India in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. It stood out in the relief art represented by Amaravati and Nagarjunakonda. The reliefs on railings and stone slabs are mainly scenes from the life of Buddha, and are richly decorated with decorative designs. The scenes from the life of Buddha include traditional scenes of objects of worship such as the bodhi tree and the Dharma wheel, which symbolize Buddha, as well as scenes in which Buddha plays a leading role. This shows that the production of Buddhist statues, which began in northwestern India, was introduced to the south around this time.

２―３世紀南インドのアーンドラ地方の美術。アマラーバティー，ナーガールジュナコンダを代表とする浮彫美術に異彩を放った。欄楯(らんじゅん)や石板の浮彫は仏伝図が主体で，豊富な装飾意匠が施されている。仏伝図には，菩提樹，法輪など崇拝の対象物や，これらを仏陀の象徴とした伝統的な図と，仏伝図の主役として仏陀を活躍させるものとがあり，北西インドで始まった仏像制作がこのころ南部にも伝えられたことがわかる。
