…A large freshwater fish from South America. Arowana is the name used in the Amazon region, and is also known as the Amazon bandfish. Other species in the same family include the South American pirarucu, the Heteronotis from the Nile River, Congo, and Senegal in Africa, and the Scleropages from Indonesia, Borneo, and northern Australia.
