[Died] August 10, 1913, Helsinki Finnish novelist. Real name Vihtori Peltonen. A representative national writer of neo-romanticism. Born to a peasant family, he was almost entirely self-taught. In 1899, he resigned as editor-in-chief of the newspaper Uusimaa and moved to the countryside with the determination to become a writer, where he energetically self-taught himself in literature, cultural history, philosophy, religion, and other subjects.
