〘Noun〙 (In ancient times, it was also called "Kamu-gatari". An abbreviation of " Kangatari-uta" ( Divine Word Song). A type of folk song from ancient times. A narrative song about Yachihoko -no-kami, handed down by the Amagatari-be (Heavenly Words Department) . It has the final line "Even the words of the matter are thus, " and is found in the first volume of the Kojiki. *Kojiki (712), Vol. 1 "These are called Kamu- gatari (Divine Words) ." [Additional Note] There is also a theory that reads it as "Kangot." There is also Amagatari- uta (Heavenly Word Song), which has the same final line and is similar in form. →Amagatari-uta ( Heavenly Word Song).

Kami-gatari [God's language]

〘noun〙 When a god possesses a person and tells them his will. Oracle . ※Daikanhon Nohkyoku, Makikinu (c. 1537) "How new. He takes off in flight. It is frightening that the god is speaking." [Additional note] The entry for "Shoku Nihongi - Jingo Keiun 3rd year, June 6th, Otou" reads, "The imperial edict said, The god has spoken , and O no Nakatomi is the first ."

〘名〙 (古くは「かむがたり」とも。「神語歌(かんがたりうた)」の略) 上代歌謡の一種。天語部(あまがたりべ)によって伝承された八千矛神(やちほこのかみ)に関する物語歌。「事の語言(かたりごと)も是をば」という終句を持ち、「古事記」上巻にある。※古事記(712)上「此れを神語(かむがたり)と謂ふ」[補注]「かんごと」と訓む説もある。また、同じ終句を持ち、形式上類似するものに天語歌(あまがたりうた)がある。→天語歌

かみ‐がたり【神語】

〘名〙 神が人にのりうつって神意を告げること。託宣(たくせん)。※大観本謡曲・巻絹(1537頃)「さもあらたなる。飛行を出だして。神語りするこそ恐ろしけれ」[補注]「続日本紀‐神護景雲三年六月乙卯」の条に「詔曰、神語有大中臣」とある。

しん‐ご【神語】

〘名〙① 神のことば。神のお告げ。神託。※続日本紀‐神護景雲三年(769)六月乙卯「詔曰、神語有大中臣、而中臣朝臣清麻呂、両度任神祇官、供奉无失。是以賜姓大中臣朝臣」② 神聖なことば。霊妙なことば。〔徐陵‐麈尾銘〕
