A scholar from the Spring and Autumn period in China. A disciple of Confucius. His surname was Zhong and his given name was You. Zilu was his pen name, and was also called Ji Lu. He was from Bian, Lu (Shandong Province). He was listed as one of the Four Departments and Ten Philosophers of Government. A brave warrior with outstanding valor. He was a bold and honest man. He always protected Confucius with his martial talent. He was frank in expressing his opinions to his teacher, and although Confucius often scolded Zilu for his reckless bravery and rudeness, he was the disciple with whom he had the closest bond. He became the governor of the Ji clan, and later became a senior official in the village of Pu in Wei, but was killed in battle during the civil war in Kaikai, Wei. His body was pickled in salt, much to Confucius' grief. [Shigehiko Uno December 14, 2015] [Reference] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
