A Christian author known as the "Father of Church History" from around 260 to 339. In Caesarea, Palestine, he became a disciple of Pamphilus, who taught the theology of Origen, and was indoctrinated with anti-Sabellian ideas. He became Bishop of Caesarea around 315. In the Arian controversy, he was initially favorable to Arius, but was surprised by the extreme teachings of Arius at the Council of Nicaea (325), and instead tried to resolve the situation as a moderate. Specifically, he presented the creed used at Caesarea and tried to conclude the council along those lines, but the anti-Arians made a major revision by inserting the word "homoousios (the same substance of the Father and the Son)." 260ころ‐339ころ 〈教会史の父〉と呼ばれるキリスト教著作家。
