A non-cold-tolerant bulbous plant of the lily family. Native to South Africa. It has underground rhizomes, and the stems grow thin and twisted, reaching a height of 1-2m. It has alternate glossy lanceolate leaves, the tips of which become tendrils and wrap around other plants. From July to September, it produces solitary, drooping orange bell-shaped flowers that bloom from the leaf axils. It is very similar to the fox lily genus Gloriosa , but can be distinguished by the fact that the petals do not evert. It is not widely cultivated in Japan. Its characteristics are very similar to those of the fox lily, and it can be cultivated in a similar manner. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
