Japanese: 染色工業 - せんしょくこうぎょう

Many textile products, such as threads, cloth, and knitwear, intended for clothing are not left plain, but are given color, patterns, and designs using dyes, pigments, and other coloring agents. The dyeing industry refers to the industrial production of such work. Looking at the scale of the dyeing industry, in 1995 the total value of manufactured goods shipped was 1,152.4 billion yen, there were approximately 6,500 establishments, and the number of employees was approximately 84,000. Furthermore, establishments with 100 or more employees accounted for approximately 2%, with the overwhelming majority being small and medium-sized enterprises.

糸，布，ニットなど繊維製品のうち衣料向けのものの多くは，無地のままではなく，染料･顔料およびその他の着色剤によって，色や柄や模様が加えられる。染色工業とは，このような作業を工業的に行うものをいう。染色工業の規模をみると1995年において，製造品出荷額は1兆1524億円，事業所数は約6500，従業者数は約8万4000人となっている。また従業者数100人以上の事業所は約2％であり，中小企業が圧倒的に多い。
