Born in October 1812. Became a disciple of Minato Yuraemon in Osaka and rose to the rank of Ozeki. Later, he went to Edo and became a disciple of Ikazuchi Gondayu, and was employed by Lord Hosokawa of Higo, taking the name Shiranui. In 1831, he became the 8th Yokozuna. After retiring, he trained disciples in Osaka. He passed away on July 27, leap year 1854. He was from Higo (Kumamoto Prefecture). His surname was Chikahisa, and his given name was Shinji.
